BOISE, ID – March 10, 2014 – The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation announced today that more than 30 Idaho non-profits from across the state are the recipients of a total of $2 million in community grants this year.

“These grants are a continuation of the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation’s long-standing commitment to those organizations on the front lines of service in Idaho,” says executive director Jamie MacMillan.  “We are proud to help these wonderful people, and the Idahoans who receive the benefits.”

Among the recipients was Idaho Food bank $100,000; Women and Children’s Alliance of Boise $100,000; Boys and Girls Club of Nampa $100,000; Boise Rescue Mission’s City Light Home for Women & Children $100,000.

“The grant will be a tremendous help,” says Boise Rescue Mission City Light Home for Women and Children director Jean Lockhart.  “We will use it to change lives forever.”

“This grant means we can continue to meet the increasing demand for counseling, case management, child care and court advocacy,” says Women and Children’s Alliance executive director Bea Black. “These are the core services that help individuals and families rebuild lives based on safe, healthy relationships and a strong community for everyone.  We are so grateful to the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation for their support of our general operations.”

The Idaho Human Society was granted $350,000 in memory of Barbara “Bobbie” Newman, the only child of founders Joe and Kathryn Albertson.  Mrs. Newman, a long-time Humane Society supporter, passed away September 27, 2012.

The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation is a Boise-based, private family foundation committed to limitless learning for all Idahoans. Since 1997, the Foundation has invested more than $600 million to improve education in Idaho. Although the primary focus of the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson foundation is improving education in Idaho, the Foundation’s community grants program has been maintained by the Albertson family since the 1960s to support sustainable Idaho non-profits that add value to the community and is by invitation only.

Cheesy Chilies, LLC Aims to Raise $1 Million for Charity
By Samantha Rochette
Sugar City, ID – March 12, 2014 – Just 5 years running and Cheesy Chilies™, LLC has just sold its 1 millionth Cheesy Chili which isn’t a surprise due to their great qualities.

Cheesy Chilies™ come in two sizes, grand and jumbo. Cheesy Chilies are low in fat, and are gluten free.

The company will now hold a fundraiser to raise $1 million for the charity, The Chili Foundation, which gives undersized chilies a chance to have a good life on the Wild Chili Preserve in southeast Idaho. Wilde Chili Preserve director, Amy Chili got the chance to express her appreciation.

“We can’t wait to be able to give more wild chilies a chance for a happy life at the Wild Chili Preserve,” says Amy Chili.  “Thanks to Cheesy Chilies and your donations, they will have a chance.”

Cheesy Chilies, LLC president, Matt Eichner is thrilled to kick off such a fundraiser and states that the charity will take donations for the next six months.

“Ever since I heard of putting cheese in chilies, I’ve dreamed of the day when Idaho chilies and Idaho cheese would rule the market,” says Eichner.  “That day has come for Cheesy Chilies. We couldn’t have done it without all of our customers.”

The person or organization that contributes the most to the charity will win a 3-night Carnival Cruise in the Gulf of Mexico.

“We hope that our customers will think about all those chilies that aren’t big enough to bottle,” says Eichner. “And will contribute to the Wild Chili Preserve.”

Cheesy Chilies™ are found in more than 5,000 grocery stores and delis around the nation. It is based not in sunny, chili-filled California, but in chilly, chili-filled Idaho. Cheesy Chilies™ blends the natural tanginess of chilies grown in Idaho, with the smoothness of creamy, Idaho cheese. Since its inception in 2009, Cheesy Chilies, LLC has grown by 50% year over year.
